Journal 16: Confucius Quote

"Find a job that you love doing and you will never have to work a day in your life." - Confucius

I think this qoute means that if you truely enjoy the work, you do not even feel it is work that you should do, not feeling burden from the duty. And you are doing that job not because you have to do the job for living, but it is the meaning and goal of your life.

I am definitely agree with this quote. To me playing piano and listening to music is what Confucius said. When I playing the piano, it makes me to forget about my little anxiety and my duties of other works and release stressed which I get from from daily lives. Futhermore I feel the composer's emotions and rationality. The feeling of connected with people who lived hundreds years ago is really amazing thing. Sometimes, Although I feel stressed and used to get stressed too much in my middle and high school days, but as getting older, I am getting into the music and loving in it from my deep heart. Now I am enjoying the sounds that I creat with piano and thinking and finding the meaning of the sounds is such a delight.

So, now learning music and playing the piano is magic job to me.

I read Yoojin's blog.

Journal 15: Anticipating Your Parents' Objection

Dear mom and dad

It is true that Americans are more likely to divorce compare to Asian. However, this statistics are not really true in real. The reason that the rate is higher than other countries is that the people who are already divorced tend to divorce more times. But there are also many people who never divorced and live together happily.

Also, we have dated for five years, so we know each other very well, he always respects me and gives lots of support for my life. Since I think we really fit together and he have became a big part of my life, it is hard to imagin to live without him.

Journal 12: Your First Source

Adderley Meisha. Adderley Mesha says this article offers information for insight to improve teaching skills for both priavete lesson and group lesson. It helps teachers to approach the two different kinds of lesson more effective way. Also, it provides brief information to techers about making the lesson plan in better way.

Journal 11: Research Question

I found the group piano lesson on the wikipedia, but it did not show anything. I guess this is becuase it is too narrow. I am interested in the piano pedogogy, especially in comparing and contrasting about group piano lesson and private one. I am not familiar with the group lesson but much familiar with private lesson which is more traditional and common.

What I know about this topic is that comparing to old traditional private lesson, the group piano lesson has short history and there are still lots of discussions about comparing these two things, such as which one can bring the most effective results.

Thus, I will do some research on group lesson, like making plan about lesson, and grouping the students, how to manage effectively the whole class, and what are some benefits of group lesson.

I read Dennis' and Yoojin's

Journal 10: Researh topics

The topic that interests me would be the piano pedagogy as a topic becuase it is deeply related to my major, piano performance, and now I am taking a piano pedagogy class. Thus, I think writing about this this would help me to have deeper understanding of group lesson so that I can get some practical benefits in terms of teaching students in the future.

To be specific, I might be focusing on the compare and contrast between group pino lesson and private piano lesson. I think that would help me have deeper understanding of piano pedagogy.

Journal 9: American food

If someone says lets go to eat American foods, the first thing that comes my mind would be hamberger. American traditional foods that I know are chiken soup, steak, pizza, fried chiken, franch fries, and coke.

These are the food I enjoy sometimes, but not everyday. All the American food that I mentioned above is meet. Eating sometimes like twice a week is ok, but eating only hambergers everday and other gresy meet food would be honestly, nightmare to me. I think American food is too greasy and high in calories, cuasing diabities to many peole. I am not the person who enjoy hambergers. If I had to pick choose one thing, I would choose chiken soup, which is similar to Korean chiken soup becuase I like the soup making me feels warm and comfortable.

Usually, I eat rice and a lot of kinds of side dishes which are mostly vergitables. Since I eat many kinds of side dishes with rice and soup, people and get belanced nutrition but not in high calories. Another main difference is that there are various kinds of slow food in Korea like Kimch, Duenjang that are all made of vagitables. On the contrary, the American food are usually made of meet like beef, chiken, porks, having high calories.

Journal 8: Optimistic quote

A passimist is a person who thinks impossibility and negatively and usually having too much worries in thier mind. On the contrary, an optimist thinks possitively and belives he can do something to solve the difficulties even if he is an adverse situation.

I am toatally agree with this well-made quote and actually I believe it shows the Churchill's cleverness and his insight.

Either being a pessimist or an optimist, its a bit nature thing as someone inherit his or her parents' desposition. Honestly, In some way, I am more likely to be pessimistic. For example, when I prepare an exam, which gives me pressure of getting good score, and worries about not doing well on exam that causes me a lot of stress.

However I always try to think positively, over my temperament. For instance, I have gone through lots of difficulties in majoring piano. When the result was not good, even though I put lots of afforts on practicing and that makes me fustrated. Nonetheless the reason I could have kept my major until now about eight years is that becoming optimist and try to find possibility in the difficulties.

Journal 7: birds of a feather

In my case, my best friend and me have few things in common. She was my class mate in high school. Although we were very different from each other, we could get very close to each other quickly.

Significant difference between her and me was personalitiy. I was fairly introverse and sincere student. I was compeletly serious student about studying and practicing piano. To get a good score and grades, I used to study very hard and sometimes sticked to my grades. Unlike me, she was totally easy going person and very optimistic. Eventhough she got a low grade she did not seriously concern about it. Moreover, my best friend has good sense of humor, whereas I do not have.

Neverhteless, we could become best freind becuase she kind of respected my earnest effort towards studies. Since I tend to press myself to survive to keep good grades and sometimes my mind was full of warries, I liked her relaxed mind . When I chat with her, I found myself relaxed and comfortable and a bit forget my worries and laugh becuase of her good sense of humor and cheerful attitude. I felt like I get some bright energy from her.

Common thing that we would have is hobby. Both she and me like going shopping and watching movies. we usually used to go shopping or go to movies after midterm and final in highshool.

Journal 6

What would happen if animals could talk? What are some of the questions you would like to ask animals?

Some people might say if animal could talk so that people understand their words, the animals and people's relationship would get closer. They could talk their concerns to their pets or any other things what they can not easliy talk to other people. However, I do not think they are really smart to talk like that kind of stories.

Rather than that, The animals would be able to speak their mind and say what they want or what they need. If they could talk, people might be disturbed so that they do not want to raise the animal any more. People might be stressd out about listening to their complaining and thier needs.

There are some questions that I really would like to ask to animals. I would ask a dog
why they always bark when someone is walking by their house. I would also ask a fish if they get intimidated by other big water animals.

Journal #5: Life's soundtrack

One of my favorite song is 'Yeah' by jung ah Park. I first heared the song when I was in the last year of the high school. Jung ah Park is a leader of the group called Jewelry which is certainly popular singin group in Korea. This song is one of her solo elbum.

As lots of people know, it is extremely hard to enter the univeristy and the competition is tough among students. Thus, especially in the last year of the high school the competition has been feirce to enter the univerity sleeping only few hours.

In the harsh reality, I was overloaded with studying and practicing the piano and feel exhasted.
When I went to the library about five o'clock certainly I felt tired and sleepy, the song helped me to be more energetic and feel awake.

The lyric of the song has meaning that
cheer up, somtimes you do well on your job but somtimes you can make a mistake and fail,
take the thing as a matter of course, do not give up,
I love myself, you have another chance tommorrow,
stay cool, do not let yourself be timid.

By listening to this song I could start the day with energetic feeling and brave mind that I will never give up no matter what the situation is.

Jounal 4: Weather

I enjoy all four season, spring, summer, fall, and winter. But If I have to choose only one of those seasons, I would choose fall which is my favorite season. In the fall, the weather becomes cooler and cooler. In this weather I feel the most comfortableness and concentrate on my work well because it is not having burning hot weather in the summer or not freezing cold like winter.

In addition, the falling leaves has various colors, red, yellow, brown. The leaves make completely beautiful and spectecular scene. When I was in my countury, Korea, my family usually go hiking to the mountain which has various wonderful colors or enjoy taking a walk in the olympic park near my home. The wide lawn in the park change the colors from green to luxurious gold.

Fall is the also the season of the thanksgiving days which is the harvesting season. Lots of farmers reap the fruit and vegitables that gives farmers the most happiest moment and feeling of accomplishment of the year. On Korean thanks giving day my family visit grandparents who are farmers living in the conturyside. My grandparents prepare plenty of delicious food for families and relatives that they get from their farm before the families comes.

In my countury, the fall starts on September to it lasts until November getting colder. These are why I like the fall that has proper temperature and suitably humid weather among four seasons.

Journal 3: Old fears

Somethings that I used to be afraid of was playing the piano in front of people. Of course, most pianists become nervous before their performance or while they are performing. But playing the piano in front of people scared me since when I was in middle school. I was scared of making mistakes while I am playing. I guess I put too much focus on making the mistakes and stick to making my performance technically perfect and follow the teacher's indication without my own unique opinion.

However as you know human cannot be perfect especially when performing complicated peice. But I did not want to accept those things and just wanted to be a perfectionist, in some ways the school made me think of that kinds of idea making the competition fierce betweent students.

After entered the university, fortunately my proffesor helps me to change my way of thinking. Gradually I started to focus on understanding the composer who wrote that pieces and my own music for my performance not the mistakes and technical difficulties. Once I changed my mind, these kinds of thinking drives me to more relaxed and feel comfortable about performance in front of people. I face my fears by thinking differently and focusing on the positive side which
I am having. In addition, I overcame it by believeing myself which is I am creating my own music in logical way that can move someone's feeling and deliver some messages whatever it might be.

Journal 2: Getting Around

Now, I take a bus to go to school or mall here and honestly, I feel very uncomfortable about the the transportation here, Orange County. Although the road in USA is good, I think the transportation systems are not really good in here.

I had lived in Seoul, the capital city of Korea, and usally used subway or bus. The subway and bus systems are absolutely well developed. The subway and bus usually comes every two to five minutes and these trasportations help me to go almost everywhere in Seoul very quickly compare to Orange County's transportation. In addtion, it is about six dollars cheaper than the bus in the Orange County.

In Orange county, the bus is the only public transportaion that I can use in this sity. Actually, I was shocked about the transportation in here. Because It comes only every one hour which is I could not imagin at all in Seoul. I just ralized that most people use their own private cars, and without cars it is quite hard to move: go shopping, going short trip, going to church or even classes which is finished late.
